Decision to Host the Forum in Orlando

Updated October 2024

AIAA is looking forward to hosting AIAA SciTech Forum at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, in Orlando, Florida. As the world’s largest annual event for aerospace research and development, this forum is expected to attract 6,000+ attendees.

AIAA takes its responsibility very seriously to provide the aerospace community with a constructive and safe environment for convening on the important topics of the day. AIAA considers numerous factors when determining a meeting location, including the influence of the aerospace community in the area, the size of the facilities to accommodate the event needs, and the affordability and appeal of the location for attendees and their families.

In choosing to work with Hyatt, AIAA has reviewed Hyatt’s corporate commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), ensuring that DEI is reflected across its actions and behaviors, policies and procedures, workplace environment, and culture.

AIAA is aware of the changing political climate in the state of Florida, among other states across the United States. The Florida state legislature and Governor recently have passed legislation affecting the LGBTQ+ and African American communities, as well as women’s health. Some people find these laws controversial, which has prompted them to avoid traveling to Florida.

After a careful review of these concerns, as well as the potential significant financial penalties associated with changing multi-year contracts, AIAA has made the decision to continue forward to convene our community in Florida as well as to maintain our contract with the Hyatt Regency Orlando for future meetings there in 2025–2028. The Institute will reevaluate future meeting locations for 2029 and beyond.

AIAA members and others in the aerospace community should make their decision to attend any AIAA event based on their personal preferences and comfort traveling anywhere that AIAA designates as a meeting location.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone producing AIAA SciTech Forum for their commitment to providing a constructive and safe environment for the upcoming forum.
