AIAA to Celebrate Achievements in Aircraft and Atmospheric Systems Written 5 June 2015

June 5, 2015 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) will celebrate technical achievements in aircraft and atmospheric systems at a 12:30 p.m. (CST) awards luncheon, on June 25, as part of the AIAA Aviation and Aeronautics Forum and Exposition (AIAA AVIATION 2015), June 22–26 at the Hilton Anatole, Dallas, Texas.

The honorees are:

• The Boeing Company 787-8 Development Team, Seattle, Washington, will receive the
  2015 Elmer A Sperry Award,which is the only transportation engineering honor sponsored jointly by six engineering societies, including: ASME, AIAA, ASCE, IEEE, SAE International, and SNAME. The award recognizes the team’s “pioneering engineering advances including lightweight composite wing and monolithic composite fuselage construction and advanced systems that have led to significant improvements in fuel efficiency, reduced carbon emission, reduced maintenance costs and increased passenger comfort.” Michael Sinnett, vice president, product development, The Boeing Company, will accept the award.

• Darold B. Cummings, aerospace consultant, and Boeing Technical Fellow (retired), Huntington Beach, California, will receive the
  AIAA 2015 Aircraft Design Award. The award honors Cummings “for a career demonstrating exceptional skill and creativity in the configuration and design of aircraft, and inspiring future generations of aircraft designers.”
