Payload reports Antares has won a $161 million DoD contract to advance nuclear power for space, which the company says is the largest current DoD space nuclear award. The award could help mark a significant return for U.S. space nuclear power: “The US has flown one nuclear reactor in space—SNAP-10A in 1965.” More than six decades later, Antares is working to make its R1-S microreactor the next.
