AeroTime reports that Electra has tested its hybrid-electric EL2 demonstrator from an adapted heliport at Virginia’s Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport as part of a broader campaign exploring operations from heliports, vertiports, and taxiways. The flights examined how the company’s Ultra Short aircraft could use underutilized airport surfaces and separate approach routes to avoid conventional runway congestion. Electra called the campaign a “first step toward developing guidelines and procedures” for Ultra Short operations at major airports and other new access points.
