Google to Test Space-Based A.I. Computing With Experimental Satellite Written 25 September 2026

The New York Times reports that Google plans to send an experimental satellite into orbit next Thursday with enough computing power to answer simple A.I. queries from space. Before launch, technicians put the refrigerator-size satellite through extensive testing, including shaking it rapidly “to see whether the chips inside would be damaged or the machine would come apart during a journey into space.” The satellite passed the test, with its chips intact and screws remaining secure.
