Aviation NewsDaily reports that Electra successfully landed and took off its hybrid-electric Ultra Short aircraft at Manhattan’s Downtown Skyport, marking what is believed to be the first fixed-wing aircraft to operate at the heliport without vertical takeoff capability. The demonstration highlights Electra’s Direct Aviation concept, which aims to reduce regional travel times by connecting passengers directly between city centers. The aircraft’s ability to operate in compact spaces could unlock “underutilized infrastructure like urban heliports for fixed-wing commercial use.”
