Nominations for AIAA Council of Directors Are Being Accepted Through 5 August 2026
The AIAA Council of Directors Nominating Committee (CNC) will compile a list of potential nominees for the open Director positions on the AIAA Council of Directors. This list will go to the next step of competency review held by the CNC. The CNC will select specific candidates for the open Director positions who will be voted on by the AIAA membership. The final slate of candidates will be announced by December 2026 for the election that will be held January 2027.
Nominations are being accepted for Membership Engagement Division (formerly Regional Engagement and Activities Division) Directors, Aerospace Integrated Engagement Division (formerly Integration and Outreach Division) Directors, and Technical Activities Division Directors for the term May 2027–May 2030. AIAA members may self-nominate or nominate members qualified for the open positions.
Membership Engagement Division coordinates the activities of distinct membership groups organized by either geographic or other distinct aspects of membership to facilitate broad member engagement. A Membership Engagement Director shall lead each region or membership engagement group (e.g., Young Professionals Group). Nominations are being accepted for:
- Director–Region III
- Director–Region VI

Aerospace Integrated Engagement Division coordinates the activities of related Aerospace Integrated Engagement Committees to facilitate cooperative efforts between the various professional areas. Nominations are being accepted for:
- Director–Space Systems & Exploration Group

Technical Groups coordinate the activities of related technical committees to facilitate cooperative efforts between the various technical disciplines. Nominations are being accepted for:
- Director–Aerospace Design & Structures Group
- Director–Aerospace Sciences Group

The skills and competencies being sought for MED, AIED, and TAD Directors are as follows:
- Leadership – foster participation, solicit member ideas, gain buy-in, and guide Committees within the Group to achieve successful results (taking initiative, inspiring others).
- Synthesis – understand the member-driven interests and the Board-directed strategy and be able to work with the Committee Chairs to capture a cohesive vision that blends all aspects.
- Knowledge and Experience – reflects the areas within their Group.
- Accord – ensure member-represented ideas and activities come to consensus in order to most effectively execute the strategic vision.
- Organization – ability to work with Committee Chairs to develop an organization that best supports member-driven initiatives while aligning with the Board-directed strategy.
- Communication – communicate the Board’s vision, identifying skills needed to accomplish the envisioned capability.
- Collaboration – work across MED, AIED, and TAD.
AIAA members may nominate qualified individuals for the Council of Directors positions by submitting a nomination package consisting of the following required elements:
- Nominee’s biography and/or curriculum vitae (CV) including a history of his/her AIAA activities and/or engagement with other relevant professional societies.
- Statement from the nominee addressing how he/she meets each of the sought competencies listed for the position.
- Statement from the nominee of his/her willingness and ability to serve for the terms listed, if elected.
- Nominees should be aware that if you appear on the ballot as a candidate for office, you must be willing to serve in the position. Also, all elected or appointed leaders are required to complete the Annual Volunteer Leader Acknowledgements Form before assuming office. An unwillingness or failure to do so may disqualify an individual’s consideration for office or his/her ability to serve.
