Regions & Sections
In AIAA, local sections are where the action begins. We have 57 sections throughout the United States and overseas organized into seven AIAA Regions. Each section offers technical programs and activities tailored to local aerospace professionals, students and educators.

What is a Region and a Section?
AIAA organizes its membership into geographic boundaries called “Regions” and “Sections.” There are seven regions and 57 sections. Every AIAA member is assigned to a region
that represents a specific area of the world (see Regions and Sections map). Sections are more
local and specific to cities or states that members live in or nearby. Every member is assigned a region, but not necessarily a section.
How do I know which Region and/or Section I’m in?
Your AIAA region and
section is determined based on the mailing address you input into your AIAA membership profile. When logging into MyAIAA, you will see a region and section assignment on your profile.
How do I contact or get involved with my Section?
All of the sections are listed on this page and link to their Section Engage Community or Section website. Sections are always seeking volunteers to assist with upcoming events and activities.
Who oversees AIAA’s Regions and Sections?
Regions and sections are managed by AIAA’s Regional Engagement Activities Division (READ), comprising elected directors representing each of the seven regions. Section leadership reports up to their regional director, who then reports to READ.
READ, working with an AIAA Staff Liaison, oversees the regions and sections structure, section responsibilities, and section officer duties.
How are Sections created?
A new section can be created if the AIAA members
in a specific city or geographic area express interest. New sections must follow a list of requirements to ensure it is sustainable and viable over time. Members interested in creating a new section may reach out to Lindsay Mitchell at lindsaym@aiaa.org for more information.
