Books/eBooks Authors

For over 50 years, AIAA authors have included some of the most respected experts in aeronautics and astronautics, who have helped advance the industry with their knowledge and research. With book and ebook subject matter ranging from fundamentals, to advanced principles—AIAA offers a wide range of content to our members and the public.

Initiating a Book or eBook Proposal

To initiate a book proposal review, we ask that you submit a completed Book Proposal Form  along with an outline or table of contents for the book. We also prefer to receive 1 to 3 sample chapters so that our editorial advisory board and/or their selected reviewers may evaluate the content, writing style, etc. AIAA will also analyze production costs and projected sales to determine whether the business model is sound.

Although we make every effort to work as quickly as possible, the review process typically requires a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks.

If your proposal is accepted, you will be offered a Publishing Agreement with AIAA that stipulates the terms of our relationship, including:

  • Placement in one of our three Book Series
  • Compensation via a royalty model
  • Gratis author copies upon publication and an author discount on subsequent purchases
  • A submission date for your final manuscript

Upon submission of a final production-ready manuscript our staff will oversee copyediting, composition, redrawing of art (as necessary), proofreading, and publication of your title. This process typically requires 6 to 9 months to complete. AIAA staff will work with you to develop a schedule tailored to the needs of your project.

When your book is published, we offer:

  • U.S. distribution via major industry players such as Amazon, Ingram, and Baker & Taylor
  • Worldwide distribution via our overseas partners
  • Print and electronic sales and marketing support

AIAA continues to provide long-term support for your book long after it is published, as part of its commitment to serve as a clearinghouse for aerospace resources and information. Unlike other presses, AIAA focuses solely on aeronautics and astronautics, and reinvests profits from its book sales so as to support programs that benefit the profession.
