Defense News reports, “Amid the exodus of employees across the economy over the last 12 months, 70% of companies in the aerospace and defense sector saw increased turnover, according to a new workforce study conducted by the Aerospace Industries Association and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in collaboration with Ernst & Young. Overall turnover rose to 7% versus nearly 6% the year before.” Aerospace and defense executives are still having difficulty finding qualified workers, even as the labor market cools off. Higher labor costs due to the tight labor market have shrunk sales and profit margins. For example, Raytheon has hired 27,000 people in 2022, but still needs 10,000 more.

AIAA Statement on Northrop Grumman’s Successful CRS-18 Launch

“On behalf of the 30,000 professional and student members of AIAA, we congratulate the Northrop Grumman team on its successful CRS-18 launch as part of NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) program. It was exciting to see the Antares rocket carrying the S.S. Sally Ride Cygnus cargo spacecraft lift off from Virginia Space’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Space Port Pad-0A at NASA Wallops Flight Facility. We are encouraged to see continued progress of space activities across the Commonwealth of Virginia with missions like CRS-18.
This mission enables the important use of the International Space Station for microgravity research and exploration by providing the vital resupply of more than 8,000 pounds of science and research, crew supplies, and vehicle hardware to the orbital laboratory and its crew. We recognize the countless professionals across the aerospace industry involved in this program, including AIAA Corporate Member Northrop Grumman. We salute and applaud the entire NASA/industry team for shaping the future of aerospace.”
