UAV Startup Flytrex Receives FAA Approval to Expand Grocery Delivery to Thousands of Homes

Insider reports that Flytrex has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration “to expand backyard drone delivery to thousands of homes in North Carolina, the company announced Tuesday, May 25.” Flytrex has been testing their UAV operations under the FAA’s ongoing pilot UAV program for months. The company “previously delivered food and beverages at a golf course in North Dakota. But its biggest FAA experiment started in late 2020 when it took to the skies carrying trash bags from a Walmart store in North Carolina.” Initial testing included drops made to houses about a half-mile from the store. With the FAA certification, Flytrex can now “operate its drone system above people, allowing for the largest-scale backyard drone deliveries of goods known to date,” the company said in a statement.

DoorDash Partners with Flytrex to Provide Drone Delivery in Dallas-Fort Worth

Flying Magazine reports, “On Thursday, DoorDash and Israeli provider Flytrex announced the service is available to about 100,000 residents in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs of Frisco and Little Elm. Customers can order food from dozens of local and national restaurants directly through the DoorDash app, delivered straight to their backyard via drone in minutes. With industry leader Zipline and Alphabet’s Wing also flying in DFW, the area is the nation’s largest drone delivery hotspot.”

Uber Partners with Flytrex On Food Delivery by Drone

CBS News reports, “Your next Uber Eats order could get delivered to you via drone. Uber Technologies announced Thursday it is partnering with Flytrex, an autonomous drone delivery system, to fly food deliveries to its customers. The company said it would roll out the service in U.S. Uber Eats pilot markets by the end of the year.”
