Lunch & Learn: Space Nuclear Power and Propulsion at NASA GRC 19 October 2026 | 12–1 p.m. (ET) Online
NASA’s Glenn Research Center leads the nation in space nuclear power efforts, which encompass radioisotope power systems, fission surface power, and nuclear electric propulsion (NEP). This talk will review the engineering and status of each area, focusing on NEP, how space nuclear power works, and the unique benefits it offers. Tyler Steiner is a nuclear engineer at NASA’s Glenn Research Center. He specializes in space nuclear power systems. While at GRC, Tyler has supported radioisotope power systems, fission surface power, and nuclear electric propulsion. This support has consisted of shielding analyses, radiation transport, irradiation experiments, and nuclear technology maturation.
