Will be Inducted at Ceremony on November 19 at San Diego Air & Space Museum

October 16, 2015 – Reston, Va. – American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Honorary Fellow and Past President Alan Mulally has been elected to the International Air & Space Hall of Fame. Mulally will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during an evening ceremony on November 19 at the San Diego Air & Space Museum, San Diego, California.

“AIAA congratulates Honorary Fellow and former President Alan Mulally on his selection to the 2015 class of the International Air & Space Hall of Fame,” said Sandy Magnus, AIAA executive director. “This achievement recognizes Alan’s long record of service to the American aerospace community, and his remarkable record of accomplishments while at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. We applaud this honor and thank him for his enduring commitment to shaping the future of aerospace.”

Mulally is a member of the Google Board of Directors; former Chief Executive Officer of the Ford Motor Company; former President of Boeing Commercial Airplanes; former Executive Vice President of The Boeing Company; and former President of Boeing Information, Space & Defense.

During Mulally’s tenure at Boeing, he made contributions to the design of every Boeing commercial jetliner from the 727 to the 787. Mulally is credited with leading the design of the cockpits for both the 757 and the 767 airliners, transitioning them from the familiar analogue systems to digital systems and creating the “glass cockpit” that is now the industry standard. On the 777 project Mulally served as the director of engineering and later as the vice-president and general manager of the program.

Mulally is a member of the United States National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. His multiple past honors include the 2014 AIAA/ASME/AHS/SAE Daniel Guggenheim Medal, the 2005 AIAA Foundation Award for Excellence and the 1996 AIAA Reed Aeronautics Award. In 2011 he received Automotive Executive of the Year honors, as well as an Edison Achievement Award for his work with Ford Motor Company.
