Lodewijk van Nieuwenhuijze and Frans Schenk Win 2017 AIAA/AAAE/ACC Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award
Jaap van der Salm, landscape architect, H+N+S Landscape Architects, will accept the award on behalf of van Nieuwenhuijze and Schenk on February 22, at an awards luncheon held in conjunction with the 2017 ACC/AAAE Airport Planning, Design and Construction Symposium, February 21–23 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, Louisiana.
The award honors van Nieuwenhuijze and Schenk’s “vision, strategy, and development of the Buitenschot Land Art Park near Amsterdam’s busy Schiphol Airport.”
The Buitenschot Land Art Park features a “labyrinth of noise-deflecting landscape architecture, land art, and innovative technology which protects the surrounding communities from noise pollution as well as providing breathtaking views and recreational green space.”
The AIAA/AAAE/ACC Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award honors an individual, or individuals, whose contributions in recent years have significantly enhanced relationships between airports and/or heliports and their surrounding environments with exemplary innovation that others might replicate.
