The Task & Purpose reported that last Thursday, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland AFB in New Mexico demonstrated a new “high-powered microwave weapon” that can “instantaneously down swarms of enemy drones.” In the demonstration, the Tactical High Power Microwave Operational Responder, or THOR, system, “disabled the unmanned aerial vehicle in a flash, sending it spiraling to the ground the moment the electromagnetic ray hit it.” Air Force Program Manager Amber Anderson said, “It’s built to negate swarms of drones. … We want to drop many of them at one time without a single leaker getting through.” (Image Credit: Raytheon)
