AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum and Exposition (AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum)

The 2020 AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum will be held as a virtual conference in an online-only format 24–26 August.  Information on the schedule, specific content, format, registration, refunds, and many other details will be available in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience as we finalize the details for this virtual event.

AIAA recognizes that the face-to-face meeting is ideal for sharing research, ideas, and convening the community. Given the current challenges posed by COVID-19, we feel that the virtual forum format provides the best opportunity for the AIAA community to meet and share information. By removing some of the barriers to traditional forum attendance, including travel costs and time, the virtual forum format will enable greater participation from the aerospace community—traditional and nontraditional. We are excited to use this new format to accomplish AIAA’s mission of helping aerospace professionals and their organizations succeed.

Please follow @AIAA on Twitter for real-time updates. Should you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].

###

The AIAA Propulsion and Energy Forum is the world’s only conference event to showcase both aeronautics and space propulsion and energy technologies in a single venue. From propellers and jets to rockets and deep space propulsion, and from terrestrial energy to aerospace power systems, this AIAA forum is unmatched by any competitive event.

AIAA/IEEE Electric Aircraft Technologies Symposium (EATS)

This two and a half-day symposium will focus on electric aircraft technology across three general areas: (1) electric-power enabled aircraft configurations and system requirements, (2) enabling technologies for electric aircraft propulsion, and (3) electric aircraft system integration and controls.

AIAA/IEEE Electric Aircraft Technologies Symposium (EATS)

Building upon successful events in 2018–2020, the 2021 Electric Aircraft Technologies Symposium will look at progress over the past year and continue the discussion about the aerospace industry goals for future aircraft. To accommodate rapid growth in emerging markets and ensure sustainability of air travel, one approach being explored is using nontraditional aircraft propulsion: electric, turboelectric, or hybrid/electric powertrains. AIAA and IEEE crafted this unique symposium to bring the aerospace engineers and the electrical engineers together to discuss these topics and their challenges.

ASCENDxNuclear: Nuclear’s Future Role in Space

The growing worldwide desire for a long-term sustainable human presence on the moon, emerging DoD capability needs, and the desire to send humans to Mars in the next 10–20 years may usher in a new Space Age that includes nuclear reactor-powered propulsion and power. Join industry leaders and the greater ASCEND community as we discuss nuclear’s future role in space.

Nuclear power and propulsion technologies have been explored since the dawn of the Space Age. Originally fueled by the Space Race, activities were primarily in the United States and the USSR, the two big nuclear powers at that time. Since then, challenges in funding, safety, policy, and treaties have impeded the progression and maturity of most of these technologies for space applications.

Recent technology advancements, along with political/world changes relative to space, are creating new opportunities and needed capabilities. Join experts from the space industry and government entities to hear about the exciting possibilities that nuclear energy could enable for the new Space Age. Learn about the most recent advancements, programs, and activities in the space nuclear arena, specifically propulsion and power technologies.

EXAMINE the current environment for nuclear systems and applications in space.

DISCOVER ongoing efforts and activities for these promising technologies, as well as future developments and anticipated benefits.

EXPLORE safety, geopolitical, and economic implications.

IDENTIFY government and industry challenges.

Throughout the year, the ASCENDx Series accelerates momentum toward the October ASCEND apex event. The content-driven online schedule features original webinars, collaborative workshops, and comprehensive summits on current topics of interest to professionals, students, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts.
