AIAA Domains

AIAA engages the aerospace community with high-quality knowledge and development opportunities that advance aerospace professionals' careers and their contributions to shaping the future of aerospace. To best meet the needs of aerospace professionals and their organizations, AIAA focuses its activity and content in three domains—Aeronautics, Aerospace Research and Development (R&D), and Space. These pages will serve as the central information source on the AIAA Domain Strategy and related programs, initiatives, and results helping the aerospace community succeed.

Aeronautics Domain
The AIAA Aeronautics Domain continues a long heritage of advancing innovation in flight. As aviation pushes into its second century, current aeronautics pioneers find and meet new challenges to deliver new products and services for the benefit of society. In the next five to ten years, exciting new capabilities will be introduced, and the next generation will experience flight in ways we are just imagining. The Aerospace R&D Domain recognizes that basic science and engineering is the driving force of innovation across the aerospace sector, regardless of mission application. Advances in the Aeronautics and Space Domains will spring from traditional R&D pathways--and significantly, also from increased engagement with such adjacent discipline areas as material sciences and digital technologies. Space Domain
AIAA traces its beginnings to the dawn of modern rocketry---and the AIAA Space Domain continues that trajectory with a focus on today's emerging space ecosystem and tomorrow's off-world future. Space is already an essential part of modern cultural and economic life, thanks to the widespread dependence on space-based telecommunications and navigation technologies. Space exploration and science, meanwhile, still spark strong, emotional public interest.
