Hosted by the AIAA Orange County Section, via Zoom.
The Orange County Section is hosting a talk by Robert Zubrin, President of Pioneer Astronautics, an aerospace R&D company located in Lakewood, Colorado; and is the Founder and President of the Mars Society. Uniting the entrepreneurial genius of Silicon Valley with the hard-won technological expertise of the old aerospace industry, a new generation of space companies has been born whose upstart members are revolutionizing our prospects. In this talk, Zubrin will examine the possibilities. Starting with a discussion of the present-day breakthroughs, Zubrin will take a deeper look at where it leads: to ultrafast global travel through suborbital space, to new industries on orbit, and to human settlement of the Moon, Mars, the asteroids, the outer solar system, and ultimately the stars.
This talk, by Prof. Rajkumar S. Pant, will provide a short description of the recent incidents in which an un-authorized aerial object (claimed as a surveillance balloon by US authorities, and a breakaway civilian airship by Chinese authorities) was shot down by an F-22 aircraft. This was followed by further sightings and shooting down of several similar (and not so similar) objects. We will describe the incidents based on the reports available, and also provide our insights on the issue, to try and obtain a solution to this modern conundrum, which has lead to a worsening of the diplomatic relations between USA and China.
The annual Huntsville E-Week dinner returns in-person for 2023. Join us as we celebrate the local engineering community!
The annual Huntsville Engineers’ Week awards dinner returns in-person. Join us for this event at the Jackson Center, featuring a social, keynote speaker, and awards from multiple engineering organizations in our community. Our ticketing deadline is February 14th, 2023. Organization of this year’s event is led by the AIAA Greater Huntsville Section. Partner organizations that will also be recognizing members include the Huntsville Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers Huntsville Section, Aerojet Rocketdyne, University of Alabama in Huntsville, and Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University.
Join Tuskegee University for this virtual presentation.
Tuskegee University is the only Historically Black College and University to offer an ABET accredited Aerospace Engineering program. Come learn about how Tuskegee University continues to produce alumni who excel in aerospace. Javed Khan, Professor and Head of the Aerospace Science Engineering Department, will share information about Tuskegee’s cutting-edge program.
Following Khan’s presentation, Ken Garrett, Director of Model-Based Systems Engineering at Lockheed Martin, will lead a panel discussion with his fellow Tuskegee alumni as they discuss their preparation to become aerospace engineers at Tuskegee University, their professional careers, and their work within the AIAA domains—Aeronautics, Aerospace R&D, and Space.
The symposium program includes up to 9 parallel sessions in the morning and afternoon and a keynote address mid-day. Attendees are also invited to participate in the associated Art-in-Science competition by submitting videos or images that combine technical content and aesthetic appeal.
No written paper is required, and works in development for other technical forums are welcome. Best presentation awards will be made for each technology area.

Don’t have a mentor or mentee? We’re taking the AIAA Mentor Match program live. Connect with our network of experienced aerospace professionals and students from the comfort of your own home during our speed mentoring event and find the right mentor or mentee for you!
This unique program helps you find, connect, and share experiences with others in your field. Your mentor or mentee can be in the same city or on the other side of the world. (Maybe even out of this world!) It’s an online tool—including a searchable database—that facilitates the establishment of mentoring relationships.
A great mentor is hard to find. The AIAA Mentor Match program has hundreds of mentees who are looking for someone committed to investing time into assisting in the development and growth of their career and journey in the aerospace field. Join a panel of experienced AIAA mentors as they discuss best practices and how to ensure a productive and positive experience for yourself and your mentee(s).

We are excited to host James Sergeant and his experience with the X-59 this Thursday, 5PM, in the UTDesign Makerspace!
James Sergeant has had an extensive career at Lockheed Martin (Skunkworks) and is a current flight test engineer at Virgin Galactic. He has worked with the development of the X-59 and is excited to talk about his experiences!
The X-59 is an experimental super-sonic aircraft meant to revolutionize modern aviation. The X-59 was developed specifically to soften the “thump” associated with surpassing speeds of Mach 1 (super-sonic). Join us to learn more about how this aircraft was developed and how it is ushering in a new era of flight!
The University of West Florida AIAA Student Branch invites you to attend a Professional Panel discussion on Wednesday, February 21 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Central Standard Time. Experienced professionals will be encouraged to share their experiences: things they like about their careers, things they don’t like, things they would have done differently, things they are glad they did in college that have helped their careers, advice they would give their younger selves, and so on. If you are in the Pensacola area, you can attend in person at the University of West Florida campus; if you are farther away, you can dial in through a Zoom link.
Please contact Student Branch Chair Julia Kondrat’yev if you are interested in participating (as a student or experienced professional).
