Challenges to the Commercialization of Advanced Air Mobility
As the advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem develops, the criteria used for aircraft certification and operations will require a change in basic assumptions. Autonomy, artificial intelligence, and machine learning will become essential triggering technologies,
and regulators need methods to test and include these capabilities as an integral part of attaining flight vehicle airworthiness certification and maintaining continued operational safety. In “Challenges to the Commercialization of Advanced
Air Mobility,” authors from AIAA’s Certification Task Force recommend air traffic control, infrastructure, and policy solutions to enable novel aircraft certification and integration in the National Airspace System.
