Sunday Air Travel Could Set Record, Travel Experts Say

The Hill reported that according to travel experts, a “record number” of holiday travelers were expected to board flights on Sunday. The TSA “said it screened 2.6 million passengers Tuesday, and another 2.7 million were expected to pass through checkpoints Wednesday. The TSA expects to screen 2.9 million passengers, a record number on Sunday.” Delta Air Lines “told passengers to arrive at least two hours before their flight if they are traveling in the U.S. and three hours if they are flying overseas,” suggesting that “passengers arrive even earlier Sunday and Monday due to an expected influx of people traveling home after the holiday.”

Delta Expects Profit to Nearly Double Next Year on “Robust” Air Travel Demand

Reuters reports that Delta Air Lines just announced that it expects almost doubled profits in the coming year, due to strong demand and reduced “non-fuel operating costs.” Delta expects fourth-quarter revenue to be “7%-8% higher than the same period in 2019.” Delta sees non-fuel costs down “by as much as 7% in 2023 as the company expects to fully restore its network to pre-pandemic level, resulting in a better utilization of its resources.” Delta CEO Ed Bastian said, “Demand for air travel remains robust as we exit the year.”

Joby’s eVTOL Seeks Solution to Air Travel

CNN reports that Joby detailed how its new eVTOL aircraft “could be the solution for a cheaper, quieter and greener means of commercial flying.” Joby’s partnership with Uber “will allow the company to offer its eVTOL service directly in the Uber app, but Joby also plans to have a direct-to-consumer app of its own.” Joby expects to launch its commercial operation by 2024.
