Aviation Week reports, “With some 75% of the new single-aisle engine market and the worst post-pandemic supply chain issues in the rearview mirror, CFM International’s focus is now on increasing the time on wing of its Leap engines … CFM CEO Gaël Méheust told Aviation Daily that the durability of the Leap is set to meet the standard set by the previous generation CFM56.”

The legislation will boost the workforce while protecting consumers and modernizing airports. We appreciate the hard work by House and Senate leaders in getting this bill done and President Biden for signing into law. The bill contains provisions intended to bolster air safety, improve consumer protections, and increase flights at the airport closest to Capitol Hill.

Boeing CEO Says Progress Fixing Supply Chain Issues is Very Slow

Reuters reported that The Boeing Company CEO Dave Calhoun says that progress on resolving supply chain issues has been “frustratingly slow,” though he added that the company has seen improvements in certain areas of the supply chain, such as engine forgings and castings. Calhoun added that the ability of Boeing and Airbus to satisfy customer demand for aircraft will still be constrained “five years from now.”

American Airlines CEO Believes Airline Can Become Much Larger

The Dallas Morning News reports that American Airlines CEO Robert Isom believes the carrier can become “much bigger.” Isom said, “We actually have the assets in place to fly a much larger airline. […] We’d like to get the regional fleet back up as much as we can. We talked about having about 150 planes on the ground in the second quarter, and our goal is to get those flying as soon as we can.” American “and other airlines are struggling with exactly how fast they can rebuild their networks after severe job cuts, furloughs and expense-tightening in 2020 and early 2021. Meanwhile, ticket prices have soared past 2019 levels and airlines are pocketing record revenues despite operating fewer flights.”

Space Industry Warned of Recession Impact

Space News reports that United Launch Alliance CEO Tory Bruno on Monday warned of the negative impact on the space industry by a possible recession. Quilty Analytics reported, “We expect the slowdown in public capital markets activity to continue, at least in the near-term, until market volatility remains subdued for a sufficient period of time.” Bruno noted the current environment is not favorable for high-risk investments, including those in the space sector. Bruno added, “There may be some companies that would have been great to have saved. But the ones that do get invested in are going to get a lot more attention and have a better chance of surviving.”
