Simple Flying reports, “Embraer has announced that its E190F passenger-to-freighter (P2F) has been fully certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Brazilian planemaker launched its P2F program – which also includes the E195 – in May 2022, with the E190F completing its first flight in April of this year. The company revealed that the E190F received full FAA certification last month following its certification by the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) in July.”

Airbus A321XLR GTF Engine Receives FAA Certification
Flying Magazine reports, “Pratt & Whitney has received FAA certification for the GTF engine that will power the Airbus A321XLR. According to a Monday news release from Connecticut-based RTX—Pratt & Whitney’s parent company—the engine type certificate was updated to include the A321XLR after being granted Thursday for the PW1100G-JM engine.”

Joby CEO Announces 84% Completion of Stage 3 FAA Certification Work for EVTOL Aircraft
Aviation Today reports that Joby Aviation CEO JoeBen Bevirt says the company’s eVTOL aircraft is 84% on its way to completing FAA Stage 3 certification requirements. The company “checked off several milestones in the past three months that bring it ever closer to launching commercial passenger flights in 2025.” Joby is “ramping up production at its pilot manufacturing facility in Merina, Calif., with one aircraft in final assembly and two more in production.” It also has “chosen Dayton, Ohio, as the site for the first scaled manufacturing facility, after receiving promises for $325 million in state and local incentives and benefits, Bevirt said.”

Airbus H160 Helicopter Close to FAA Certification
Aviation International News reports that the Airbus H160 helicopter got closer to FAA certification this month with the Federal Aviation Administration’s issuance of a notice of proposed rulemaking for special condition approval “of the helicopter’s main gearbox redundant lubrication system, designed to enable the helicopter to operate for more than 30 minutes after the primary system has failed.” Airbus first applied “for FAA certification approval for the H160 in 2014 and applied for an extension in 2016.” The helicopter “received EASA certification on July 1, 2020; however, various novel design features outside the existing parameters of FAR Part 29 regulation have sowed the FAA approval process, which Airbus executives had hoped would be received as early as 2021.”

Delta Seeks Drag Reduction with Boeing Aero Design Lab Kits
Aviation Week reports, “Delta Air Lines has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Aero Design Lab (ADL), targeting supplemental type certification (STC) of the Texas-based company’s drag reduction modification kits on its Boeing 737-800 and 900 fleets.” The agreement covers testing along with FAA certification.

HondaJet Elite II Awarded FAA Certification
Aviation Today reports, “The HondaJet Elite II aircraft, revealed during the 2022 NBAA Convention and Exhibition in October, just received type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration on November 2.” The jet had two major upgrades – a range of 1,547 nautical miles and increased fuel capacity of more than 200 pounds. Each figure is an improvement from the previous Elite S variant.

FAA Certification Frees Archer Aviation to Assemble eVTOL Pilot Team
Aerotime reports, “The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has given Archer Aviation the green light to begin assembling a team of pilots to fly its future fleet of electric vehicle takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Archer Aviation announced on February 18, 2025, that the eVTOL developer had received its Part 141 certificate from the FAA signifying that it is a formally recognized and regulated institution for pilot training.”
