Aviation Week reports, “GE Aerospace is expanding the use of its artificial intelligence-enabled blade inspection tool to its two most advanced commercial engine platforms. GE, which first debuted the AI-enabled blade inspection tool (BIT) at MRO Americas last year, has been using the technology to improve speed, accuracy and consistency of GEnx engine inspections. The company is now releasing similar AI-enabled BITs for GE9X and CFM International Leap engine platforms.”

GE Lends Helping Hands to Jet Engine Suppliers to Sidestep Supply-Chain Challenges
Reuters reported that GE Aerospace CEO Larry Culp said the company has sent dozens of machinists and hundreds of engineers to component suppliers in an effort to address some of the supply chain problems affecting the global aviation industry.

GE Aviation’s GE9X Engine Receives FAA Certification
Aviation International News reports that GE Aviation’s GE9X has been approved by the FAA, the company said Monday. The “largest commercial turbofan in the world, the GE9X powers the Boeing 777X, the new twinjet now expected to gain certification sometime in 2022.” The GE9X’s “FAR Part 33 certification involved eight test engines that completed just under 5,000 hours and 8,000 cycles.” GE Aviation “plans to conduct 3,000 cycles of additional ground testing on the GE9X to support Extended Operations (ETOPS) approval.” Reuters(9/28) reports that GE “said on Monday it has received orders and commitments for more than 600 GE9X engines, and has delivered eight GE9X test engines and two test spares for The Boeing Company’s four 777X test aircraft.”

Engine Aftermarket Activity Continues to Increase
Aviation Week reported that engine maintenance activity “continues to increase as airlines ramp up flying and return more aircraft to service in response to rising passenger demand, with both fourth-quarter (Q4) 2021 and early 2022 figures from some key stakeholders highlighting continued recovery.”
