Aviation Week reports, “Atlanta-based aircraft developer Hermeus has successfully completed the first flight of its Pratt & Whitney F100-229-powered Quarterhorse Mk. 2.1 supersonic flight demonstrator at Spaceport America in New Mexico. The flight of the remotely piloted aircraft, conducted on March 2, continues the company’s fast-paced development program which began with a single short flight of the smaller Mk.1 demonstrator at Edwards AFB, California, on May 21, 2025.”

Hermeus Quarterhorse Demonstrator Makes First Flight
Aviation Week reports, “High-speed aircraft developer Hermeus has successfully flown its remotely piloted Quarterhorse Mk. 1 demonstrator at Edwards AFB, California, marking a key step toward the follow-on development of supersonic and hypersonic vehicles. The short flight, which Hermeus describes as a simple “hop,” was achieved after the aircraft completed two high-speed taxi tests earlier on May 21. After takeoff the aircraft climbed briefly to low altitude before making a straight-ahead landing on the base’s 6.2-mi.-long dry lakebed Runway 15/33.”

Hermeus Begins Testing of Precooler Technology on Pratt & Whitney F100
Aviation International News reports, “Hermeus continues its march toward hypersonic development with the testing of its precooler technology on the Pratt & Whitney F100. The precooler lowers the temperature of incoming air, enabling an increase in the maximum speed of the turbine engine.”
