Flying Magazine reports, this week the annual Honeywell Global Business Aviation Outlook was released, “predicting strong and stable growth in the industry for the next five years. The forecast also predicts demand for 8,500 new business aircraft worth $280 billion during that period, up a little from earlier forecasts and prompting some manufacturers to ramp up production. At the same time, customer demand has leveled off, suggesting a more balanced market is taking hold, according to the survey.”

Avionics International reports, “Honeywell, a supplier of avionics systems, and Merlin, a small company developing software for autonomous military aviation, have partnered to bring more autonomy to military and commercial aircraft. The initial focus of the partnership will be fixed-wing military aircraft, the companies said on Thursday. ”

Honeywell Unveils Its SAMURAI AI-Enabled Counter-Drone Swarm System
National Defense Magazine reports, “Honeywell has launched its Stationary and Mobile UAS Reveal and Intercept system, or SAMURAI, which is designed to counter swarm drones and protect critical assets in an increasingly contested airspace, the company announced Sept. 16. The system, which can be used on vehicles and fixed-based platforms, combines ‘beyond-visual-line-of-sight communication with command-and-control capabilities’ to ‘detect, track and then counter drone swarms.’”

Honeywell Debuts Avionics Upgrades for Gulfstream
Aviation International News reports that an upgrade to Honeywell’s Primus Epic avionics “is now available for the Gulfstream G650/650ER.” Gulfstream says the Block 3 avionics update “enhances pilot situational awareness.” As standard features, the Block 3 update “comes with new graphics modules that provide higher terrain resolution.” It also “has additional synthetic vision display options with better graphics, improvements to the communications and alerting systems, and new software for the next-generation flight management system.”

Air Taxis Will Start Commercial Flights in 2025, Honeywell Predicts
Bloomberg reports that Honeywell’s head of aerospace business, Mike Madsen, said that he sees the first eVTOL air taxis beginning operation in 2025, but not being fully embraced by the industry until closer to the end of this decade.

Sikorsky, Boeing Select Honeywell’s HTS7500 Turboshaft Engine to Power DEFIANT X Helicopter
Inside Defense reports that Sikorsky and The Boeing Company announced Thursday that they have chosen “Honeywell’s HTS7500 turboshaft engine to power their DEFIANT X helicopter, one of two contenders for the Army’s Future Long Range-Assault Aircraft.” In a statement, Ricky Freeman, President of Defense & Space at Honeywell Aerospace, said, “We’re confident our HTS7500 engine on the DEFIANT X platform will provide the Army with an agile, fast and maneuverable platform that will help ensure overmatch capability in the future battlespace.”
