Lilium Set to File for Insolvency Protection to Salvage eVTOL Aircraft Plan

Aviation International News reports, “Lilium is about to file self-administration proceedings in a German court, implementing a form of insolvency protection as it scrambles to line up further investment to complete the development of its eVTOL aircraft. The company announced the move on October 24, a week after the German parliament’s budgetary committee rejected its application for a €50 million ($54 million) loan guarantee, which blocked a matching €50 million loan from the state of Bavaria.”

eVTOL Developer Lilium Powers on its First In-production Jet

Aerotime reports, “In a significant milestone the electric vehicle takeoff and landing (eVTOL) developer Lilium has successfully powered on its first in-production Lilium Jet. The first Lilium Jet, MSN 1, will be used exclusively for ground testing to confirm safety for the first piloted flight scheduled for early 2025 with MSN 2, which itself is currently in final assembly. This power-on test “confirms that the aircraft is being built in accordance with Lilium’s platform design and the flight systems are functioning correctly,” the developer said on October 1, 2024.”

Germany’s Lilium Earns Biggest Order Yet for Flying Taxis from Saudi Airline Group

Reuters reports, “Germany-based air taxi developer Lilium on Thursday clinched its biggest order yet in a deal for Saudi airline Saudia Group to purchase up to 100 of its all-electric flying shuttles, which are still in development. The state-owned airline made a firm order for 50 of Lilium’s electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) Jets with an option for an additional 50 later, Lilium said.”

German Air Taxi Firm Lilium Receives EU Approval for Electric Vehicles

CNBC reports, “Lilium, a German air taxi firm, has received regulatory approval to design and operate its electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles, the company said Monday.” Lilium was “awarded ‘Design Organization Approval’ by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, a special condition license that grants the company the ability to design and manufacture its aircraft in lieu of formal rules for the industry having been agreed and implemented.” The Lilium Jet “uses multiple small propellers driven by electric motors to provide lift during takeoff and landing, as well as thrust during the cruise phase.”
