Robert H. Liebeck, a world-renowned authority in the fields of aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, and aircraft design, died on 12 January 2026. He was 87 years old.
AIAA Associate Fellow Deininger Died in June 2025

William (Bill) D. Deininger, Ph.D., died on 21 June. He was 68 years old. Deininger graduated with a B.S. in Physics from the State University of New York Cortland (1979). He then received an M.S. in Physics and Plasma Physics from Colorado State University (1982) and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from University of Pisa (1995).

Remembering Geoffrey Andrews: 2018 Abe Zarem Graduate Award Recipient and K-12 Subcommittee Chair

On 19 June, AIAA and the aerospace community lost a bright, brilliant, and warm figure when Geoffrey Andrews, age 30, died in a plane crash. Andrews was an engineer and aviator whose intelligence and dedication to giving back to others was admired by everyone who had the good fortune of crossing paths with him.

NASA Honors Former Acting Administrator Steve Jurczyk
A press release from NASA read in part, “Former NASA Acting Administrator Steve Jurczyk passed away Nov. 23, at the age of 61, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. During his career, which spanned more than three decades with the agency, Jurczyk rose in ranks to associate administrator, the highest-ranking civil servant, a position he held from May 2018 until January 2021. He ultimately went on to serve as acting administrator between administration changes, serving in that position from January 2021 until his retirement in May 2021. … He also was an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.”
