2021 AIAA AVIATION Forum“Aerospace Leadership in a Transitioning World”

Press Passes Available for 2021 AIAA SciTech Forum

December 21, 2020 – Reston, Va. – Registration is open for journalists around the world to gain access to the 2021 AIAA SciTech Forum, the world’s largest event for aerospace research, development and technology. Every year, THIS is the place industry gathers; the event sets the industry tone for the year. Request press credentials here.

WHEN: 11–15 and 19–21 January 2021, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST each day. Event programming has been expanded to eight days.

WHAT: 2021 overall theme: “Accelerating Innovation through Diversity.” Event highlights:

    • Daily themes: People and teams (11 January); industry sectors (13 January); science/ technology (15 January); design cycle (19 January); perspectives (21 January).
    • Featuring 2,500 technical papers – five similar papers grouped at once for a 75-minute presentation; 25 concurrent technical sessions each day.
    • Key events/speakers:
      • Opening plenary remarks Monday, 11 January, from Eileen Drake, CEO and President of Aerojet Rocketdyne.
      • Pamela Melroy (Colonel, USAF, Ret.), former NASA astronaut/Space Shuttle Commander, and Steven Walker, vice president and chief technology officer for Lockheed Martin, addressing emerging technologies Friday, 15 January.
      • 2021 AIAA Durand Lecture for Public Service Award will be presented to David W. Thompson, retired, President and CEO of Orbital ATK, Inc. Thompson will deliver his lecture, “The History and Prospects of Commercial Space Activity,” Tuesday, 12 January.
      • “How do you design faster?” Challenge – Five teams of young professionals (each from a large company) work together to develop an idea or a service to address the challenge. Each team will give a 10-minute pitch and the audience votes. Participating companies each submitting five of their best young professionals: The Boeing Company, Ball Aerospace, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Lockheed Martin and NASA.
      • “Public Policy-Aerospace 2020: Where Have We Been and What to Expect” – featuring aerospace veteran journalists, Graham Warwick and Guy Norris, Thursday, 21 January.

This year’s theme, “Challenging Times, Unique Opportunities,” gives us the opportunity to reset expectations, redefine roles, and accelerate change. Join us as we set the stage for the future and explore the next golden age of aviation.

WHEN: 27 June–1 July 2022

WHERE: Hilton Chicago. With in-person attendance, you’ll also receive full online access to the 2022 AIAA AVIATION Forum event platform.

WHAT: Overall theme: “Challenging Times, Unique Opportunities.” Daily themes: State of the Industry (27 June); Addressing Supply Chain Challenges (28 June); Engineering for Safety (29 June); Environmental Sustainability (30 June); Future of the Industry (1 July).

The five-day forum program will feature over 1,000 technical presentations and an extensive lineup of aviation leaders and innovators as speakers, panelists, and presenters. The technical program will include presentations and papers on the latest innovations spanning 20+ aviation and aeronautics research topics, including fluid dynamics, applied aerodynamics, air transportation systems, thermophysics and heat transfer, multidisciplinary design optimization, and many s topics.

More than 25 companies and organizations will be on display in the Exposition Hall on 28–30 June. In addition, attendees can hear more on industry trends and compelling research in the heart of the Exposition Hall at the Innovation Stage @ the HUB. From digital aerospace and cybersecurity, to sustainability, to advanced air mobility, these short talks and interviews will be unique experiences that give attendees even more insight.

HEALTH and SAFETY: AIAA continues to prioritize attendee health and safety as we return to in-person events. After careful consideration, we have decided to keep our existing guidelines in place for the 2022 AIAA AVIATION Forum. The monumental technical program includes nearly 3,000 technical presentations on the latest innovations spanning 60 aerospace research topics, including aeroacoustics, fluid dynamics, applied aerodynamics, aircraft design, spacecraft structures, electric propulsion, and guidance, navigation, and control.
