Reuters reports, “President Joe Biden signed on Thursday sweeping aviation legislation that will boost U.S. air traffic controller staffing, increase funding to avert runway close-call incidents and speed up refunds for canceled flights. The $105 billion, five-year measure reauthorizes the Federal Aviation Administration. It prohibits airlines from charging fees for families to sit together, requires airplanes to be equipped with 25-hour cockpit recording devices, raises maximum civil penalties for airline consumer violations from $25,000 per violation to $75,000 and boosts aircraft production scrutiny.”Full Story (Reuters)

Czech Republic Signs Artemis Accords
SPACE reports that a ceremony held at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday “the Czech Republic’s Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský signed the Artemis Accords on behalf of the nation alongside NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.” The Czech Republic now “becomes the 24th country to sign on to the international agreement that lays out principles for responsible exploration and development of the moon and space.” Lipavsky said during the ceremony, “I believe that the Artemis Accords will enable closer cooperation and coordination between like-minded nations. We believe that the signature will kickstart the development of an institutional and industrial cooperation within the Artemis community.”

Aerus Signs LOI for 30 Eviation Electric Aircraft
Aviation Today reports that electric aircraft manufacturer Eviation “announced last week that the airline Aerus signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for 30 commuter aircraft.” Aerus, a regional airline in Mexico, “plans to serve communities in the northern parts of the country including Nuevo León, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz.” The airline will “use Monterrey Airport as its regional hub to launch commercial operations this year.” Eviation’s Alice aircraft “has nine seats and is fully electric.”

Trump Orders FAA to Repeal Ban on Overland Supersonic Flight
Flying Magazine reports, “President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order instructing the FAA to repeal its ban on supersonic flight over U.S. land. The order said that, with advances in noise-reduction technology, supersonic flight is ‘not just possible, but safe, sustainable, and commercially viable.’ New noise standards will be developed that weigh ‘community acceptability, economic reasonableness, and technological feasibility,’ the White House added.”
