Military Drones Aid Central Texas Search and Rescue Operations

Flying Magazine reports, “The Texas Military Department has deployed unmanned aerial systems (UAVs) to assist in search and rescue efforts following severe flooding in Kerr County and surrounding regions. The floods have caused significant damage and prompted widespread evacuations as emergency teams continue operations across affected areas. In a statement delivered during a press briefing on Sunday, Major General Thomas Suelzer, who serves as the adjutant general of Texas, detailed the deployment of an MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft.”

Pentagon Planning Commercial ‘Space Reserve” to Support Military Satellites

SPACE reports, “The U.S. Department of Defense is developing a plan to use the ever-growing American commercial space industry for national security purposes. The plan, known as the Commercial Augmentation Space Reserve would allow the U.S. Space Force to use the capabilities of the commercial space sector through “pre-negotiated contractual agreements which would be activated in times of crisis or conflict,” according to the service’s “Commercial Space Strategy” document, which was released in April 2024.”

Aerospace Parts Suppliers Not Yet Able to Support Airbus, Boeing Needs

Reuters reports that The Boeing Company and Airbus both have planned increases in jet output in 2023, but a recent Morgan Stanley survey of the aerospace supply chain industry says that will not be easy. The supply chain sector “seeks to speed up its recovery from a pandemic-led slowdown as a travel boom spurs demand for jets, inflationary pressures and labor availability are impeding their progress and have dampened sentiment, the survey showed.” Labor and parts shortages have blunted Boeing and Airbus from realizing their goals for increased jet production rates, with worker shortages cited as being the “biggest constraint” for suppliers.
