Aerospace Perspectives Series: Uniting Simulation and Requirements: Verifying Cameo Requirements using Physics-Based Artifacts in VOLTA

 On-Demand Recording Available

Access Replay

The development of modern aerospace systems demands more than static architectural models. These systems require integrated, traceable validation processes that bridge the gap between system intent and physical performance—processes that can be supported through Multidisciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization (MDAO). While SysML captures logical architecture and requirements, it often lacks the fidelity needed to drive engineering decisions. This disconnect is especially pronounced when system models are not tightly integrated with simulation, analysis, and multidisciplinary design workflows.

During this session, ESTECO will discuss the practical challenges of implementing traceable verification and validation (V&V) within Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) initiatives and present a structured, pragmatic approach to addressing them. We’ll demonstrate how simulations from diverse tools can be referenced in cameo models using VOLTA—a flexible, general-purpose MDAO framework. Attendees will learn how VOLTA manages simulation data with full traceability, version control, and context, enabling confident, data-driven decisions.

The presentation will also show how separating architectural definition, simulation setup, and execution streamlines data handoffs across global teams. Finally, we’ll explore the strategic importance of supporting both small- and large-scale MBSE deployments, emphasizing the benefits of URI tracking, well-defined data models, and open API integration. A comprehensive strategy that supports both scales ensures the digital thread delivers immediate value while remaining adaptable and scalable over time.

Join AIAA and ESTECO to discover how the VOLTA digital engineering framework helps MBSE programs evolve from concept to compliance, with repeatable, traceable, simulation-driven V&V at their core.

Women Driving Aviation: Innovations in Breaking the Sound Barrier

(Internal Note: this webinar didn’t happen)
In celebration of Women’s History Month, join AIAA in collaboration with NSBE Aerospace Special Interest Group and the Royal Aeronautical Society for this special webinar featuring Christine Darden. While Darden has many accomplishments, the majority of her 40-year NASA career focused on sonic boom minimization. Darden’s work laid the foundation for the Low Boom Flight Demonstrator Aircraft which NASA has contracted Lockheed Martin Skunk Works to design, build, and test. Listen as she discusses her life’s work and how she advocates for equity for women in engineering.

This webinar is a part of the annual Mary Jackson Lecture Series hosted by the Royal Aeronautical Society and the AIAA Diversity Working Group.

The U.S. Aerospace Workforce: Obstacles and Opportunities

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global workforce has changed significantly. Against this backdrop, other factors, such as working from home, the great resignation, and the arrival of advanced technologies, such as automation and artificial intelligence, continuously impact talent and the workforce. During this session, the obstacles and opportunities related to the U.S. aerospace workforce are revisited through a panel discussion. The envisioned conversation intends to provide an opportunity to gain an industry perspective on some of the pain points and relevant opportunities for the workforce. Observation of historical facts and gaps—where more efforts are needed to nourish talent for invigorating the U.S. aerospace industry—is vital.

This webinar is arranged in collaboration with the AIAA Society and Aerospace Technology Outreach Committee (AIAA SAT OC). AIAA SAT OC regularly investigates the impact of aerospace technology on society. In this context, that impact is considered from the contributions of the U.S. aerospace workforce to state-of-the-art technologies that in turn lead to societal outcomes.

NASA/JPL & WHOI Live from Research Vessel Atlantis — Meet the Professionals [High School Member Webinar]

AIAA Members: make sure you are signed in to the site  with your member credentials to be able to access the on-demand replay.

Hosted by the AIAA STEM K-12 Outreach Committee. Meet and hear directly from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) engineers and scientists aboard R/V Atlantis. High school students were able to ask questions and learn about the interaction between disciplines, avenues for careers, and get a tour of the expedition. The webinar featured a direct connection with the team in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska that is currently diving both the crewed Alvin submersible and the robotic Orpheus-class submersibles to map and sample some of the deepest regions on Earth (5000m in the Aleutian trench). Interact with the team collaborating to build and deploy the Orpheus-class vehicles that contribute to Earth-science as well as serve as early pre-cursors for vehicles that might explore ocean worlds beyond the Earth.
