AIAA Defense and Security Forum (AIAA DEFENSE Forum)

The 2019 AIAA DEFENSE Forum will use the 2018 National Defense Strategy as a framework to discuss the strategic, programmatic, and technical topics and policy issues pertaining to the aerospace and defense community. This Secret/NoForn event provides a venue for leaders from government, military, industry and academia to explore aerospace technologies and their application to complex national security challenges.

Cancelled – 2020 AIAA Defense and Security Forum (AIAA DEFENSE Forum)

AIAA is sensitive to the worldwide concern regarding the coronavirus infection, and we have been closely monitoring the situation. The health and safety of our event participants are our first priority. Based on recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Department of Defense, AIAA has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 AIAA DEFENSE Forum that was to be held 5-7 May in Laurel, Maryland, and the Trusted Autonomous Systems Course that was to be held 8 May.

Please note:

  • All paid attendees’ registration fees will be automatically refunded via the original method of payment.It is the responsibility of each participant to cancel his or her hotel room.
  • If you made reservations with the Homewood Suites in Laurel, please contact them at 240-360-2725.
  • If you have made airline reservations, please contact the airline as soon as possible as AIAA cannot be responsible for costs associated with travel.

While we do not plan to reschedule the 2020 AIAA DEFENSE Forum or Trusted Autonomous Systems course this calendar year, we look forward to your future participation with AIAA, and hope that you’ll mark your calendar for the 2021 AIAA DEFENSE Forum, 20-22 April in Laurel, Maryland.

AIAA DEFENSE presents: COVID-19 and Aerospace and Defense: Lessons Learned Webinar

The AIAA DEFENSE Forum Executive Steering Committee is pleased to provide this unclassified discussion that will delve into the effects of COVID-19 on the aerospace and defense community. Speakers from government, industry and academia will take an enterprise view and consider lessons learned from all angles, including productivity, supply chain, and workforce. Ample time will be included for questions from the audience, and findings and notes will be captured and shared with the industry.

Space Policy Pod: Episode 3 (Advancing Space & National Security: A Discussion with Department of Defense’s Stephen L. Kitay)

This episode features an in-depth discussion on space and national security with Stephen L. Kitay, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy. Kitay, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is responsible for establishing policy and guidance to assure U.S. and allied warfighters the benefits of space capabilities and to help guide the Department’s strategy for addressing space-related issues. He also leads Departmental activities in international space cooperation.

Space Policy Pod: Episode 2 (Advancing Cybersecurity in Space: A Discussion with NIST’s Matthew Scholl)

This episode features a discussion on cybersecurity with Matthew Scholl of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Scholl is the Chief of the Computer Security Division in the Information Technology Laboratory at NIST. He is responsible for the development of cryptographic standards used by the U.S. Government and internationally, cybersecurity research and development at NIST, and cybersecurity standards and guidelines for federal agency security programs. He also co-leads NIST’s participation with cybersecurity national and international standards development organizations (SDOs) and associated conformance testing programs.

Space Policy Pod: Episode 1 (Scott Pace)

This episode features an engaging conversation with Dr. Scott Pace, covering a range of key topics impacting the future of space exploration and commercial development. Dr. Scott Pace currently serves as the Deputy Assistant to the President and Executive Secretary of the National Space Council. Pace was formerly the Director of the Space Policy Institute at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, where he was also a Professor of the Practice of International Affairs.
