An Important Letter from AIAA's Executive Director
Dear Colleague, As we start 2013, there is little doubt that the full impact of 2012 events has yet to play out. In 2012 we witnessed a “perfect storm” of the fallout from a scandal within a federal agency – the General Services Administration (GSA) – and the failure of Congress and the White House to achieve meaningful budgetary progress. This combination has left our Institute facing an atmosphere of tightening government travel rules and shrinking agency budgets – both of which threaten the long-term viability of AIAA. March Issue of Aerospace America Now Available Online
The March 2013 issue of Aerospace America is now available online for AIAA members. Don’t miss this month's feature article, “Stormy Outlook for Weather Satellites,” in which author James W. Canan discusses how the public has grown to rely on the capabilities of, and even take for granted, the satellites operated by NOAA that enable timely predictions of storms, flooding, and other critical hazards, allowing preparations and evacuations that save lives, health, and property in affected areas. Now, however, as Canan writes, “as these satellites and their military counterparts grow older, looming budget cuts threaten to create dangerous gaps in the coverage they provide.” To access the March issue of Aerospace America visit www.aiaa.org/myaiaa, log in, and navigate to “Access Publications & Materials” to select “Aerospace America.”
