Lodewijk van Nieuwenhuijze and Frans Schenk Win 2017 AIAA/AAAE/ACC Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award

Honored for Their Design of the Buitenschot Land Art Park

 

February 17, 2017 – Reston, Va. – Lodewijk van Nieuwenhuijze, advisor, H+N+S Landscape Architects and Frans Schenk, project leader, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, The Netherlands, have won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and the Airport Consultants Council (ACC) 2017 Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award.

Jaap van der Salm, landscape architect, H+N+S Landscape Architects, will accept the award on behalf of van Nieuwenhuijze and Schenk on February 22, at an awards luncheon held in conjunction with the 2017 ACC/AAAE Airport Planning, Design and Construction Symposium, February 21–23 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, Louisiana.

The award honors van Nieuwenhuijze and Schenk’s “vision, strategy, and development of the Buitenschot Land Art Park near Amsterdam’s busy Schiphol Airport.”

The Buitenschot Land Art Park features a “labyrinth of noise-deflecting landscape architecture, land art, and innovative technology which protects the surrounding communities from noise pollution as well as providing breathtaking views and recreational green space.”

The AIAA/AAAE/ACC Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award honors an individual, or individuals, whose contributions in recent years have significantly enhanced relationships between airports and/or heliports and their surrounding environments with exemplary innovation that others might replicate.
